The Blood Express project objective is to deliver innovative solutions, which will improve the efficiency of blood component supply and significantly reduce wastage.

The project aims are to:

• Review the vein-to-vein process within the supply chain
• Eliminate excess inventory and reduce wastage within both the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and NHSScotland
• Match the supply and demand as closely as possible
• Introduce and develop innovative solutions in Supply Chain Management, which will enable us to ensure that blood is available at point of use at the right time
• Promote a better understanding of supply chain working between both SNBTS and NHSScotland Blood Banks
